Summary

Placeframe is an independent software project operated by Glacials and designed to keep photo-location matching local by default. The marketing site at placefra.me is a static website hosted on GitHub Pages. The macOS app is designed for photographers who want to restore missing location metadata in Apple Photos without sending imported Timeline data or match results to third-party servers.

Information the website handles

This website does not include a sign-up form, analytics dashboard, or advertising pixels. If you visit the site, GitHub Pages and the surrounding internet infrastructure may process standard technical request data such as IP address, user agent, and request logs in order to serve the page and protect the service.

Information the app handles

Placeframe is built to process imported Google Timeline data, matching decisions, and photo review state locally on your Mac. The app is intended to read from Apple Photos, compare timestamps and locations, and write approved metadata changes back to Apple Photos locally when you choose to apply them.

  • The imported Timeline file is parsed locally.
  • Location matching runs locally.
  • Approved metadata writes begin in your local Apple Photos library.

Apple services that may be involved

Some optional or adjacent behaviors rely on Apple services rather than Placeframe servers:

  • Apple map tiles may load if you open the review map.
  • Rich place labels may use Apple geocoding if you explicitly enable that option.
  • Apple Photos may download iCloud-hosted photo previews when needed for display.
  • If you use iCloud Photos, Apple may sync approved metadata changes after the local write.

What Placeframe does not do by default

  • It does not upload imported Timeline files to a Placeframe server.
  • It does not upload match results to a Placeframe server.
  • It does not require an account to perform local matching.
  • It does not include third-party advertising or behavioral marketing trackers on the app workflow.

Retention

The website currently does not offer user accounts or hosted storage. App data retention depends on your own Mac, your Apple Photos library, and any Apple services you enable.

Policy changes

This policy may be updated as the app approaches release. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new effective date.
